L Straus & Sons LS&S Carlsbad Austria Round Covered Butter Pink Blue Flowers
Pink roses, blue flowers, green vines/leaves, scalloped edge, gold trim. I believe this is a covered butter dish, although there is no strainer piece. It looks similar to a covered muffin plate but is smaller.
Condition: Inner round area is about 5-3/8” diameter; about 8-1/4” handle to handle. Total height with lid is about 4-1/4”.
The dish has many small marks and discolored glaze pits. The gold trim has obvious wear and there are many small marks on the underside. The lid has a few small marks and brown glaze pits inside and out. The gold trim has minor wear. No chips, cracks, or crazing.
More details: The LS&S Carlsbad Austria backstamp was used by L Straus & Sons. A hand painted number is also present – please see the photos. L Straus & Sons was an American importer affiliated with Macy’s department store. The company had their own porcelain decorating factory in Carlsbad, then part of Austria. (Some trivia: Isidor, one of the Straus sons, went down with the Titanic.) Based on historical information, I am guessing covered butter dish is pre-World War I.

I ship by USPS or FedEx Home (Ground), depending on the weight, destination and value of the box. I always refund excess shipping via PayPal. If you select USPS Parcel Select, I may change it to FedEx Home, because that method can often be faster and includes insurance. You will not need to sign for the box, unless you contact me ahead of time to request that service. I am pleased to ship to APO addresses.

International buyers: All fees incurred in your country are your responsibility. I will not mark an item as a gift on the Customs form.
To avoid shipping delays and possible added expense, make sure your address is up to date with PayPal. I ship my items in corrugated cardboard boxes, with packing peanuts and bubble wrap.
