By the famous MARX & GUTHERZ porcelain manufacturers in the Bohemian part of Austria, at the beginning of the 19th Century, here is a rare piece. They were famous for their beautiful oyster plates, but here they created a footed bowl in the marine theme.
The bowl is designed as a large sea shell with a deeply scalloped jagged rim and a finely horizontally lined body as in the outside of a shell. It rests on a 5 foot coral base which extends as a support on its sides.
It is hand painted inside and outside with delicate pink and blue grey flowers.
A stunning and unique piece!
It measures 5” high by 9” wide and weighs almost 3 lbs.
